“Mr. Owl” is a puppet I picked up at IKEA for a few dollars. I use Mr. Owl to ask children their names (as part of the INTRODUCTION portion of the lesson): “Whoooo are you?” I scoop the “whoooo” from high to low to high again in asking the children, when asking each child their name. Then the child responds. “Hello, Jane!” or “Hello, James!” I answer, and then ask the next child. The children can join in. I use Mr. Owl periodically to help the children learn to find their head voices, to discover that they can sing higher and lower pitches, helping them learn to match pitch.
